The Sydney Thunder logo

The Sydney Thunder are a franchise in Australia's newly announced Twenty20 cricket competition, the Big Bash Leauge

Along with the Sydney Sixers they are the successors of the NEW SOUTH WALES BLUES who played in the now-defunct KFC TWENTY20 BIGBASH. The Thunder's home ground is ANZ STADIUM in Sydney's west. Their team uniform is electric green.

Cricket Australia did not allow Cricket NSW to use the sky blue colour traditionally associated with New South Wales sports teams. The Cricket NSW board unanimously decided on electric green as the team's colour, though other colours were considered, and rejected as being too close to other Sydney sports teams.

Their General Manager is John Davyson, their coach is Shane Duff, with Daniel Smith given the role of assistant coach and player. Their inaugural captain is David Warner. On 17 December 2011, the Sydney Thunder overcame the Melbourne Stars by 6 wickets at the MCG in their inaugural Big Bash match, with captain David Warner making 102 not out from 51 balls. In their second match, the Thunder won as Chris Gayle blasted 100 not out. This was to be the Sydney Thunder's last win in the Big Bash League approaching the final round as they slumped to miss the finals without superstar captain David Warner who was on Test duty. In February 2012, Cricket Australia urged Sydney Thunder to recruit more Asian players, in order to widen the fan base
